What Is ELO on TheQuickSport?

Your ELO rating is a skill level score between 1 and 6 that reflects how good you are at a sport. It helps organisers set up balanced games and lets you find matches that suit your level.

There are two types of ELO on the platform: the Global ELO, which is built from votes by other players, and the Admin ELO, which is assigned by community admins. Both use the same 1–6 scale, but they work differently.

Global ELO: Rated by Your Peers

After you play a game, you can rate the other players you played with. Everyone else can rate you too. These votes build your Global ELO — a weighted average that reflects your overall skill level in a sport.

Global ELO is currently available for Football, Basketball, and Volleyball.

  • You rate players on a 1–6 scale (1 = beginner, 6 = expert).
  • Votes from higher-rated players count more than votes from lower-rated ones.
  • Your ELO is based on your most recent 20 ratings per sport, so it stays up to date.
  • New players without any votes start with a default rating of 2.
How it worksAfter a confirmed game is archived, all participants can rate each other on a scale of 1 to 6. Your Global ELO is the weighted average of the ratings you receive — votes from higher-rated players carry more weight.

How to Vote on Past Games

After a game you played in is finished and archived, it shows up on your past games to rate. You can also rate players directly from the match detail page of any game you participated in.

The more games you rate, the more accurate the ELO system becomes for everyone. Your votes directly help create balanced and fair matches.
  1. Go to your Profile and open the ratable games tab.
  2. Pick a past game you haven't rated yet.
  3. Rate the players you played with on a scale of 1 to 6.
  4. Submit your ratings — you can rate between 1 and 5 players per game.

Admin ELO: Set by Community Organisers

Some communities use their own ELO system instead of the global one. In these communities, the admin assigns a skill rating (1–6) to each player directly. This is called the Admin ELO or Community-scoped ELO.

When a community has Admin ELO enabled, games in that community use the admin-assigned rating to decide who can join — not the Global ELO.

How it worksThe community admin evaluates your skill and assigns a rating between 1 and 6. This rating applies only within that specific community and sport. Different communities can give you different ratings.
No rating yet?If you are new to a community with Admin ELO and have not been rated yet, some communities allow you to join games as a first-timer. Others may require a rating before you can sign up — in that case, reach out to the community admin.

How ELO Affects Your Games

Organisers can set a level limit on their games. When they do, only players whose ELO falls within that range can sign up. This keeps matches competitive and fair.

If a game belongs to a community with Admin ELO enabled, the community-assigned rating is used. For all other games, your Global ELO applies.

If a game has a level limit and your ELO is outside the range, you will not be able to join. Play more games and collect ratings to build your ELO over time.

Tips to Build Your ELO

  • Play regularly — the more games you play, the more ratings you collect.
  • Rate others after every game from your past games. It helps the whole community.
  • If you are in a community with Admin ELO, ask the admin where you stand and how to improve.
  • Your ELO is based on your last 20 ratings, so consistent play keeps your score accurate and up to date.
  • Check the Leaderboard to see how you compare to other players in your sport.
